Here is the basic information you should record and bring with you to the interview:

Exact address of the interview location. Don't forget about floor number and suite or room numbers!

Interviewer names. Obtain the full name of at least one of the interviewers, two names if you can. That way, if one of the interviewers are nowhere to be found, you can at least try to contact the other interviewer. Phone numbers for each interviewer or contact person. If you have the phone numbers with you, then you can call the interviewers for any last minute emergency you have.

PREPARING FOR JOB INTERVIEWS : GET DIRECTIONS

If the recruiter or employer gave you exact driving directions to the interview location, then print out the directions and put it in your interview folder. If they have not given you the directions, you can obtain directions using various online maps such as Yahoo Maps or MapQuest. Always bring the directions with you on the day of the interview!

If you have the time, you should also drive to the interview location before the actual interview. Maps and directions are great, but sometimes the actual roads will differ from the directions given by online maps. Make sure there are no surprises by driving to the interview address beforehand.

PREPARING FOR JOB INTERVIEWS : BRING YOUR CELLULAR PHONE

You should bring your cellular phone with you so you can call the interviewers if needed. For example, if you get stuck on the road for whatever reason, you can call the interviewers with your cellular phone, so that they don't have to sit and wonder what happen to you.

If you don't have a cellular phone, it's a good idea to get one. Furthermore, it's not good to use the office phone to talk to recruiters during the day. If you have a cellular phone, you can use it to conduct your job search during lunch hours (Please do not use company time or resources for your job search! It's not only unethical, but you could get yourself fired because many companies monitor employee phone conversations!).

PREPARING FOR JOB INTERVIEWS : BRING RESUME COPIES

Print out extra copies of your resume, neatly formatted, and bring them with you to the interview. Also include 2 to 3 references and bring them with you. Many employers ask for extra resumes at the time of the interview. So if you have copies with you, you won't have to appear un-prepared.

PREPARING FOR JOB INTERVIEWS : PREPARE YOUR OUTFIT

Plan out the clothing you will wear to the interview at least one day before the interview. Make sure that your formal business suit (his or hers) is wrinkle free and very clean!

PREPARING FOR JOB INTERVIEWS : RESEARCH THE COMPANY

Find out as much information as you can about the company you will be interviewing with. The more you know, the more intelligent questions you can ask during the interview. Get information on the company business, their strategic direction, products, and competitors. Also try to get info regarding the specific department and project you are interviewing for. You should at least get a description of the job position and responsibilities.
